Rothin awoke with a start. Well, "awoke" may not be the right word. He was born fully grown and ready to eat his breakfast. Or stop running as fast as he could, and start his recuperation.
It was an immediate relief to be back on his feet. It wasn't until five or six minutes later, when the first eggs fell from the basket of eggs onto the floor and started to make a rustling sound, that he remembered he was alone in the basement. Just after the eggs had stopped making the noise, he heard a loud banging sound from the hallway and then a slamming sound.
"You alright there, Warren?" said Lacey, speaking softly and gently. "You just woke up, that's all."
